Back from vacation and down another 4.4 pounds!

Hello Everyone,

I am back from vacation.

I had a wonderful time.

I followed my program, allowed myself goodies whenever I wanted them but not to excess. My biggest goodie is ice cream. I also had a couple of alcoholic drinks (vodka and diet cranberry juice) but that was that.

I also did plenty of dancing and plenty of walking over the past 11 days.

Net result is a 4.4 pound drop.

I am now 6.4 pounds away from my goal of under 200 pounds.

After that I will let the chips fall where they may. I have had so many benefits as a result of my surgery.

Just for all of you here they are including for the newbies that might be coming into the forum. I recently added a few and added some dates too. The list is a progression over the last 7 months.

Medical/Physical Maladies that have been resolved to date

• Diabetes resolved – off all meds, avg reading 110
• BP normal again – I am still taking bystolic 5mg. Resting pulse is around 60 and BP near or below 120/80. Without the bystolic my resting pulse is still in the 60s. However, my BP goes up to the high 130s/high 80s.
• Sleep Apnea resolved – I am not snoring nor do I believe I am stopping breathing. I will confirm this later this year. The air pressure from the CPAP machine was making me very uncomfortable; lots of burping
• Legs no longer swollen
• Waist size has shrunk – Wearing size 44 pants comfortably and just made it into 42 pants.
• Feet are smaller – I was able to put a pair of dress shoes on that I haven’t been able to wear.
• I stay under 1200 calories a day. Most days around 1000 calories.
• I have a lot more energy
• I can dance, dance and dance
• I can walk up neighborhood hills aggressively without having to stop; no longer breathless.
• My incontinence due to my prostatectomy has been resolved.
• I am able to sleep in my bed again. I had been sleeping In an upright chair to be comfortable.
• Dramatically reduced backaches; almost completely gone.
• I can bend over and tie my shoes now!
• I can see my toes again 
• I can do dance steps again that I couldn’t do. The belly is gone!
• Now wearing size 42 slacks comfortably and looking forward to size 40 slacks. Just got into 40s but they are snug.
• Starting to sleep on my side again! This has happened in years!
• Intimacy much improved !!! 
• Fit in to a small diner booth !
• I can run up and down stairs several times without becoming breathless
• I squeeze out between two cars that were tightly parked together. A year ago I couldn’t get out of the car; I would be trapped.
• I squeezed into a size 38 pair of pants. They are tight but they closed! (6/1/2014)
• Sleeping on side is comfortable now. (6/1/2014)
• Sleeping flat on my back is doing fine too. No longer need to be propped up. (6/1/2014)

Best wishes to everyone,

Ralph

I should add one more statement here.

I am having some issues with posture and backaches still; albeit they are less.

I went to my bone doctor who prescribed some physical therapy.

I have a few new exercises to straighten up my spine. I am slouching terribly. it is improving. I do my darndest to walk standing straight up now and I feel improvement. I also need to be stretched. I am terribly tight. Part of my physical therapy is stretching my leg muscles; boy that is not fun, but it will help resolve the tightness in my back and neck.

My bariatric surgeon and nurse practitioner said that these issues are common to many post op patients that have lost a huge belly like I have or simply all the weight.

So we work on it.

Awesome Ralph.....

Sounds like you and your sweetie had a great time...

Like you I have some back aches as well as rib and hip pain . I spoke to my surgeon about this and was told with major weight loss your body, bones, muscles and even the neurons have to shift and reposition itself while learning to adjust to less fat and more muscle which will cause muscle pain...

I do know we are getting a new bed now which will also help. Our mattress is adjusted to my pre-surgical weight, shape and size and my new body is not getting along my old body imprint in the mattress.

We are talking about a new mattress too!

Wow Ralph, you are getting mighty close to that 200 lb goal! Only 6.4 lb to go. Awesome!!!

Keep up the great work!!! :)

Yes getting close to goal.

However, I expect that I will get to the low 190s before the weight loss really slows down.
