Did anyone deal with Oxford's 6 month documented weightloss attempt?

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting as I begin my journey. I live on Long Island, NY and I have my surgeon consultation on Friday, January 10th. I am curious if anyone has UHC Oxford. This is what it says for one of their requirements; Documentation of a motivated attempt of weight loss through a structured diet program, prior to bariatric surgery, which includes physician or other health care provider notes and/or diet or weight loss logs from a structured weight loss program for a minimum of 6 months. I have documented weight logs from doing weight watchers online for the past 6 months, do you think this would be accepted. I know I will find out all my requirements needed when I meet with the surgeon. I am just so ready to get started and lose all this weight I have been dealing with for many years!

Thank you in advance!

weight watchers was not accepted for me. I had to see the Dr. once a month to be weighed and I had to bring a list of all food and exercise. Hope this helps
Good luck with your journey

Until TriCare Prime changed it's requirements, by Weight Watchers documentation was good. Because of the wording, I would suspect that it will be accepted, but call your insurance agent to be sure or check with the Dr. office, they usually have a handle on what's acceptable and what's not. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you both for your responses, very helpful! I agree Frank, by the wording it sounds like they will accept Weight Watchers. Fingers crossed and I will find out on the 10th and keep you guys posted.

I did WW too but my insurance like yours stated that it had to be monitored by my doctor or licensed weight loss specialist so the accepted two months of WW online and then I had to visit my doctor each month about my weight only. It didn't count if I saw my doc for a cold or check up and talked about my weight loss. The reason for the visit had to be charged as a weight loss visit then if I had a cold I could be treated secondary to the weight loss check.

First of all, know that it can take as long as 4-6 months to get all of the tests out of the way. Does your GP have any documentation of your weight loss attempt?

My requirements were the same as yours. They were satisfied with a list of diets I have tried.

Good luck and you have found a great support team. Stay with us.

Hi everyone, thank you all for the great support. I had my first surgeon consultation on Friday. I do need the 6 month weigh ins, but the surgeon is going to use The seminar I went to for my December weigh in and January's appointment as another weigh in. I have a tentative April appointment. I will be busy getting all my tests done and I am so happy I do not need a sleep study. My only concern is that there was a little note on my paperwork that said " may need a 12 month waiting period" because my insurance went into affect 11/1/13. I do have a certificate of coverage for my prior insurance that I had for 7 months before my husbands job merged with another company and they changed carriers. There is a 60 day lapse between the coverages. I will call the insurance coordinator on Monday to see what that is about. The surgeon is not to concerned about it since no one contacted me about it as of yet. I will have a sigh of relief once I get my approval. This been going on for a year, my prior insurance had a 12 month pre -existing clause and after 7 months my insurance was switched.

It is my impression that it is illegal to have a pre existing clause in insurance as of this year. Please check this out. Congrats on you decision to "go for it" Please come here often and keep us posted

Hi Deena, I am definitely calling my insurance on Monday. My policy states my coverage was effective 11/1/13. Do not see why I have to wait 12 months for bariatric surgery.
