Welcome, Gypsea, Amilyn. Wow, I'm 71 and had surgery in my mid-50s. Best of luck to you, having the procedure in your 70s. It's doable, though. Laparoscopy makes the procedure so much easier, though. I had a full open procedure, major surgery, requiring a long recovery. Now, it's more like a big visit to the dentist for something like a root canal, comparatively. If I were going to have it at my age, I'd still get RYGB rather than VSG. I'm extremely happy with my choice and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I think there's still an occurrence of esophageal trouble with VSG, but since RYGB involves only the stomach organ, no problem.
