Drive Thru?

From McDonalds for breakfast I get a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit, but take the biscuit off. Other times I have nuggets, I can have 4 then I feel uncomfortable. At Arby’s I get the roast beef and cheese kids size and take the bread off, I’ve only had that once so far. At Panera I have the broccoli cheddar soup. I did have their broccoli cheddar mac n cheese and it took me 2 days to eat, but very tasty. At Taco Bell I can have 1 soft taco. Seems like a lot of fast food, but we don’t have it often. When we go to a sit down restaurant, my husband and I usually share an entree. When we order pizza I eat whatever I want on top, but generally can only have 2-3 squares of the thin crust and 1 slice of the other type of crust.

That's good to hear, because it's inevitable that you are going to go through a drive through when you're busy, have kids, traveling, etc. We still have to be able to live a normal life. The first hospital system that I went through to have bariatric surgery, they were so strict with their pre surgery diet and the dieticians (who were very belittling btw) pushed no fast food (which I get), but not even a "big" apple! The hospital I'm going through now is much more realistic.

I really have a hard time with fast food. We went on a 2 week road trip from San Diego back to Chicago area and so I tried quite a few, but almost all fast food makes me sick. I can eat some of an egg mcmuffin. I get a kids cheese quesadilla with carnitas added at Chipotle.
Interesting, I guess the grease or something might not sit well with some stomachs. It's all so individual.

Hardee’s aka Carl jr does the lettuce wrap. I do Burger King bacon cheeseburger no bun on my grocery shopping day. I am still enjoying my Italian beef in 2-3 inch portions, lasts for three days sometimes 4. Or a pancake from ihop about every other month. Dairy Queen has a six piece rotisserie chicken which is a different go to for me. Would love to get chicken nuggets with hot mustard sauce. Dietician says no breading. I will consider it as an option. For birthdays we went to to roadhouse, easiest meal was 6 oz sirloin with steamed broccoli to go container for salad and 1/2 the meal. I really don’t cook anymore

The first fast food I ever tried post-surgery was taco bell and had one taco. I can't remember how far out I was but it was plenty. Just recently though I actually had 1 taco plus their fiesta potatoes and that was pushing it.

Still haven't tried any of the typical fast food places. I am able to eat a regular slice of pizza now where I use to have only 1/2 slice. I can also handle a small wedge of an Italian sub sandwich.

It has been over a year since I ordered anything from a fast food restaurant other than I did get a vanilla cone with my daughter. It's not that I'm righteous or want to look like it, but fast food was a major part of my obesity and an incredibly big trigger for me. I don't trust myself to be moderate, small stomach or not. I used to go through a drive-through and order two meals, with two drinks with the idea that although I was only ordering for myself it would look like I was ordering for someone else....like the drive-through people cared at all. It was just me, mind screwing myself.

Of course, it helps a lot now that I am not eating meat, as that narrows things down quite a bit. Taco Bell has bean options for everything, but now that I'm out of the habit going through, I just don't want to start again. There are a couple of places offering beyond or impossible burgers, but it doesn't seem worth it, given my history.

I am not knocking ANYONE for going through a drive-through. They are convenient and you can do things as people have mentioned like going bun-less or ordering certain items. They just scare the shit out of me now, because I don't want to go backward, and that's my issue, not everyone is in the same boat though.

I understand, thanks for sharing because I didn't even think of it being a trigger for someone.

I can relate so much to what you say about fast food places triggering my overeating. We have one long street I have nicknamed "Fast Food Avenue" bc it has the majority of those along one main road in town, on both sides of the street.

I could feel almost literally the endorphin rush as I decided which one I would visit, and where I could eat it secretly before going home to my boyfriend & fix him dinner, or order extra to bring him if I was too full to eat it all. There was a lot of shame involved, esp the secret eating part.

Thankfully since I've had the surgery, I'm better equipped to handle my head hunger as my stomach heals & my sense of hunger has yet to return. Unfortunately FF Ave is one the 2 main streets in town & it's impossible to avoid passing all of those places. Fingers crossed I won't give in to the temptations, or at least I will make the "healthier" grilled, bunless choices down the road.

Sorry to ramble on about all of this, but this is probably going to be one of the greater challenges I will have to face on a regular basis. Thanks for listening.

For fast food -- McDonalds - nuggets (and 4 nuggets is it), Arbys - a chicken wrap (1/2), Chick fil A - the grilled nuggets, Braums - kids burger minus the bun Panera the broccoli and cheddar soup is enough for two meals and is amazing (i ask them not to serve the bread with it) And yes I agree sounds like I eat out a lot, I don't but I do try to make it normal life with the family so they are not always having to make meals about what I can eat

For drive thru fast food if I actually need vs want the food I will just get a cheeseburger and toss out the bread. We just came back from vacation at Disney and in the parks I would just just a burger there as well or I would order a kids meal at one of the parks quick serve locations since it usually came with fruit.
