Hello Everyone

I am just getting started on my road to weight loss. I have did everything to get my lap band. I am searching for great stories of being happy with the surgery so I won't be so scared. I really want everything to go so smoothly so I want to have everything ready when I come home that I won't be tempetted to blow it. Lots of my friends have had different types of weight loss surgery and have did wonderfully. I just want to be like them. Happy and lighter.

Hi Dean and welcome to the forum. My surgery is one week away on 2/27. You will find a lot of support here. Even though there are not a lot of lap banders here your post surgical meal plans will probably be close to what everyone else is following. I think the big difference will be food tolerances or lack of them. Make sure you come back to the forum for any questions you have, to let us know your surgery date and to let us know how you are doing.

Hi Deannalrc, Welcome. I had the RnY bypass, your on your way to a wonderful journey to a healthier you. You should do fine, the lap band is less intrusive than the RnY but they can both be done laprascopicly, the lap band has a quicker recovery time but you may have to go back several times for adjustments until they get it just right, we have several follow ups but mainly to make sure we are healing up ok and check on vitamin levels. Good luck and come back and let us know how you are doing. Tom

Hi! Just to ease your mind.....I had laprascopic gastric bypass 3 weeks ago (on feb. 1st). I was up and walking around in hospital 2 hours post op! I was active before the surgery, though over weight and had a lot of health issues (diabetes diagnosis this past august). The pain was tolerable and I was able to shower myself the next morning and was walking over a mile a day before leaving hospital on Sunday morning. I would have left fri. as I was doing well, though I had an unexplained fever of 103. They did a lot of tests which were all normal. On sat. night, they took me off of the iv fluids and within 3 hours, fever was gone....some just react to meds with a fever I guess :) I also prepared before going in and it was sooooooo much easier then what I could imagine some people go through. I bought all sorts of liquids and sorted my vitamins and meds into those pills organizers ahead of time. I also stocked up on protein supplements/shakes. I had also bought a lot of foods from pureed list, as I was not cleared to drive for 3 weeks (standard for my dr.) and pureed foods began after 2nd week. You will be good......just remember that it will be worth it and you have a lot of support from others....whether its family and friends or even online communities! Good luck :)

Hello Laura, I started reading Before and After by susan Maria Leach. It is a great book so far. Susan did a good job preping herself for the surgery and did a great job afterwards so far. i am up to her first year after surgery. I am not a reader, but I do work out and I get a lot of reading done on the treadmill and stationary bike.

Hi again! That does sound like a good book! I will have to pick it up :) and good job with the treadmill and bike! Keep up the hard work!
