I still don't feel that great and everytime I eat I feel yucky (slight stomach ache, sweats, cramps). I can't even look at protein drinks without gacking). I hate to say this and feel guilty thinking it, but I really regret this surgery. I hope someone out there has felt this and things ended up alright.

This is a learning curve that takes time to adjust to.... This is a new tool that you have to learn to use, adjust to and make perform its best for you.. It does get better.

Take your time with liquids and your protein..... Sip, Sip, Sip.

Don't try to get it all in at one time, set a goal say your protein shake, take a sip every couple of minutes. Time yourself. Much like when you hit solids you will need to take a minimum of 20 minutes to get your 1.5 ounces of solid protein in. Do the same with your protein..

WELCOME to the Forum!!!

What are you eating? Are you only drinking protein shakes? Possibly you are allergic to something in the shakes. Has your surgeon let you start to eat soft foods such as applesauce, eggs, tuna, salmon, crackers, cottage cheese? I was allowed to eat these at 3 wks out, but only a couple tablespoons of food at a time. You may not feel sick if you are allowed to eat soft regular food. If you get sick on a variety of foods then you should check with your surgeon, and your nutritionist because something maybe wrong.

Good luck!!!

I would call yr surgeon tell him what yr going through. I didn't see yr surgery date so I don't know how far out you are. Hope you feel better soon.

hello all first post trying to figure it out . been 11 days since surgery trying to find a groove with my fluids. any advice ?

Hi everyone, Today is my third day after surgery. I feel yucky trying to drink water, but I am able to get my protein shakes slowly. I notice when I drink too much of the amount I should, the liquid stays on the esophagus causing some pain. I have no nausea but I do have acid reflux my doctor told me to take a Prilosec otc daily and seems to help a little bit. I am trying to stay positive with everything but I am worry not able to get enough water.

Very, very normal. I think they should just tell people that they're going to regret surgery in the first two to three months. I had similar problems and I too absolutely hated protein shakes! I used to have to try to choke them down by holding my nose. Even then, yuck! It gets a lot easier with time, though, so hang in there. You'll be back to normal foods soon, just in much smaller amounts. Remember to eat slowly and listen to your body. I'm not even sure I could tell you all of the ways in which my life has improved in the last 4 1/2 months, but if it helps at all, having bypass surgery has turned out to be probably the best decision I've ever made in my life.

Not holding water down

So today I tried water with crystal light, it didn't went well, but my husband dissolved a four once jello sugar free of course, in the blender with water, I don't know why but did the trick. I was able to keep 12 ounces of water down mix with jello. Thank all for your comments it really making feel better that you guys have gone through where I am right now.
