I am starting week 3. I am still on the blenderizing stage and a little afraid to start eating soft food! I would love to hear how you all did. I had gastric bypass.

Hi Beth, When I started eating softfoods, it was no problem. I ate refried beans, soft scrambled egg, Greek yogurt, mashed cauliflower and did just fine. Remember to eat small portions and stop when you are full. How have your first two weeks gone? Keep checking in, we have all kinds of experience on this board, you should get answers to just about any question you have.

thanks, i don't always feel full right away. so my problem is maybe i'm eating to fast. my first two weeks are good and i've been eating all of the above except beans and cauliflower. they aren't gasy? how do you get all the fluids down? thanks for the help!

OK, first you may indeed be eating too fast, something I'm still struggling with. Try laying your fork down between bites and counting to 30 before picking it up again. That helps me. I'm not sure how gassy they are, but they are good and offer something different. As for fluids, get a water bottle, I have a 32 oz one, fill it up in the morning and sip sip sip all day, stop 30 minutes prior to and 30 to 45 after eating. Once you get in the habit, it's not so hard. Being dehydrated on the other hand is a real pain in the keester. Sounds to me like you're doing pretty good, keep it up and you'll be a BIG LOSER before you know it.

The transition to soft foods shouldn't be too hard. As for the full feeling, it may not come for a while. I am almost 10 weeks out and still do not have that feeling. Because of this, I have to measure and weigh everything. I do, however, feel satisfied after my meals. Wendy's chili is a good soft food choice. It is my "go-to" food right now. I just got moved to Step IV diet a few days ago.
One of the tricks I use to help slow down my eating is to use a toddler spoon. It only holds 3 peas, or a couple of beans from the chili. I also chew everything at least 25 times. As for the fluids, it takes a little time to get used to remembering when you can drink in relation to food, but it will become second nature.

Good Afternoon Beth,

I am on my 3rd week too. I have a sheet prepared by my surgeon that instructs me exactly what to eat for 8 weeks. Fortunately, I did not have to puree my food. I had no problem eating 2 tablespoons of soft foods the 2nd week, mashed potatoes, yogurt, applesauce. On the 3rd week I am 1/2 scrambled egg & 1/2 piece of toast, and 1/4 cup of tuna & 2 crackers. Good luck on your journey, Nancy
