11 years out and they discovered i have a fistula from my bypass surgery.

I haven't had this complication, but I asked about it. It isn't uncommon and can be fixed.

oh my gosh, yes! It's so true. I've also opened my support group to non-surgical patients who want to see what it's all about, the good, bad AND ugly! Glad you made it to yours! STAY WARM! :)

    Hello! Surgery scheduled for 1/29/14

Ralph condensed it very nicely! It will be here before you know it. But, unlike Ralph, I remember being in the pre-op area wanting to bolt for the door! Six years later and a LOT of educational experiences it was the best decision I've ever made for myself. I work out daily, and still have to...

    depressed and grossed out

I remember it took a good 8-10 months to get in ALL of that protein and water! and yes, the pills were horrific! just know that it becomes easier with time and patience. I'm 6 years out and all I take now is my vitamin supplements. You're doing GREAT!! keep up the good work!

So glad you are doing well Ralph! I'm hoping to work with our IT department to have our support groups web and pod casted so that anyone can join in from anywhere. The boards are amazing, but sometimes you need a "face to face". Stay warm and safe! Gina

    Frustrated with myself

Admitting your shortcomings is probably the hardest thing to do so GOOD FOR YOU! and this isn't an easy road nor is it meant to be. I think I've evolved more over the last 6 years since my surgery than I ever have. Point is, you will have positive and negatives in this experience. It's what you...

    gastric sleeve

A number of our patients are over 60! They do amazingly well and are much more compliant than the 40 year olds (including myself!). And I agree with Cheyenne (which I do A LOT! :) ) as long as you have a competent surgeon and he/she has a great, supportive staff you shouldn't have any issues.

Upcoming surgery, worried about work after..

I agree with Cheyenne, talk with your surgeon. If you don't disclose and something happens, you could be held accountable. I had my surgery during nursing school as well. Took a final on Monday, surgery on Tuesday, Final on the following Monday...Clinicals resumed 2 weeks later and I was cleared...

New and in need of support and guidance!

anything sugary, even naturally sugared snacks like fruit, can cause issues. In my experience, I've noticed that whenever I thought I was "hungry" I was actually "thirsty". Your body dehydrates quickly, especially after surgery. By the time you notice "symptoms" of dehydration, its usually quite...
