Jamie-Sue, The post-op gas is a problem but it gets better over time. I think everyone is hooked up to a PCA. I used my evry 10 or 15 minutes but they take it away after 24 hours. The nausea wasn't all that bad, it passes quickly. The key to avoid the nausea is to eat / drink very slowly and to stop eating or drinking at the first sign of fullness. I had my surgey on a Monday morning and was discharged on Thursday late afternoon. You should do fine at home. I live alone and have a physical disability and did OK. I took liquid hydrocodone and my pain was minimal. I was able to do everything I needed to do for myself and didn't have to call anyone for help. I even managed to go up and down the basement stairs to do laundry within a week.
It's perectly normal to be afraid to have surgery. Just think of how much better you will feel after losing weight. I still have a long way to go to reach goal but I feel so much better now that I am down 88 pounds. You'll be just fine so try not to worry too much.
