Hi! I'm Vivienne and I am going in for my Roux en Y gastric bypass on the 22nd. I am excited, a little nervous but more than everything READY!!!! Looking forward to getting to everyone on this site and learning form you who have already been there. I have been reading thru some of the threads and find much inspiration here. So glad I found this site!~

Hi Vivienne, Welcome. You are starting a wonderful journey to a healthier youn I had the RnY 2 years ago, I feel great and have 20 lbs to go no worries though I will get there. I am excited for you:D, let us know how you are doing and feel free to ask questions everyone here is willing to share. Good luck. Tom

Vivienne-Welcome, we are certainly happy that you found this forum. After almost 6 years of research and planning I finally had my RNY on 2/27/12. It's perfectly normal to feel nervous and would be concerned if someone about to embark on this journey wasn't. Just make sure to come back to the forum to let us know how you are doing. There are a lot of wonderful people here who can offer support and advice. Visiting this forum sustained me for months before I had my surgery. I am disabled and find it difficult to get out to a "live" support group. Ask anything on your mind and don't be shy about sharing what you're feeling.

WELCOME VIVIENNE,
I wish I already had my surgery date, your's will be here soon, happy for you. Have they told you to do a liquid diet? congratulations on your weight loss.I need to do more exercise for I've only lost 7 lbs, since Jan, just finished up with doctors now I have to wait 5 days for all results to get back to surgeon's office then I can call and make an appointment. How long has it taken you to get to this stage.. where you actually know your surgery date?
You will like this site everyone is kind and willing to help you along your new journey to a healthier and happier you.

Hi Tom!
Thanks for the warm welcome and encouragement! I had a long drive today for work and it suddenly dawned on me.......oh sh**! One week from today I will have my surgery and for the first time since I scheduled the date I had a moment of panic! As it turned out, tho, one of the clients I saw is 10 years out from her RNY and we had a nice chat, very encouraging and she gave me some great advice on what NOT to do after I begin eating again. I'll keep y'all posted on my progress as I travel this road to a more awesome me! :D

Hi Pat,
Thanks for your kind words of advice! Had my first real moment of panic today when I realized the just ONE WEEK form today, I will have my procedure. Got past the panic, and am so excited to get this this done! I am finding many people who have had the RNY who I never knew had it, as I am sharing with clients that I will be out for awhile post op. Everyone has been so encouraging and it is nice to hear about their success. I'll try to post some pix here before I go to the hospital next week, and update as things progress. What is the nature of your disability, if I may ask? Is it something that will be helped by your weight loss? I ask because I have a friend who had polio as a kid who is quite overweight, and I think his mobility would be better if he lost about 100#, but not sure if he would be open to the idea unless I could cite someone who is doing this for the mobility....so maybe if it helps your mobility I could encourage him to look into it. Anyhow, I'll keep you posted, and hope you will keep me mupdated as well. Take care!

Hi Donna!

I started looking into the RNY about 12 months ago, but got serious about it about 6 months ago. I belong to an HMO so had alot of hoops to jump thru, but with my bad back(3 ruptured lumbar discs) and family history of diabetes, heart disiease and strokes, I managed to convince them that weigt loss now would save them money later. I have found it very difficult to exercise with the severe sciatic pain from my back, but have managed to loose the amount they wanted to facilitate the laproscopic surgery with minimal risk. I went to Vegas last weekend, and was worried I might have gained some back as I ate a little off my program, but actually lost 2#(guess walking the casinos and pulling the one armed bandits burned off my littel cheats.....lol!) I use the liquid protien drinks 1-2 meals a day and lean and green for dinner(chicken or fish with a salad) I have to add Meatmucil to the shakes or they turn to concrete in my colon....ugh!(I know....TMI, lol) My surgeon doesn't require a total liquid diet pre op, but of course it will be liquids for the first few weeks post op. If you haven't already, check out www.bariatricadvantage.com.....tons of different protoen products, vitamins and stuff, and they always send a few free samples to try with your order. Good luck getting your date scheduled....keep me posted!

I can totally relate to what you are going through. The closer the day of surgery the more you think about it. Don't worry though, on the morning of surgery you will be ready to get to the hospital. Once you arrive you won't have time to think about things. Make sure you keep us posted on how you are doing.

HI Vivvienne

your day is getting closer, yeahhhhhhhhhh
sounds like you have everything under control, you did good no weight gain while in vegas plus you had fun.
I was told this week I can see the surgeon on May4th, I am really hoping that I will be fortunate enough to also have my surgery in May. Eveybody's pre-op have been different. I will continue to do as they ask because this surgery is going to change my life permantly. I too deal with degeneration in disc's L1,2,3,4,5 and at times the nerve gets pinched and causes severe pain down my left leg. But I also have to have hernia surgery the same day as the w/l surgery for my entire stomach is herniated, this will be my 4th hernia surgery and hopefully my last. Please keep us posted how your doing and when you feel like it share how the whole experience was for you. I will remember you in prayer for your surgery.
Be blessed
Donna
