So, after continued failure of trying to convence my PRIMARY physican, that bypass is what I need, I have FINALLY gotten a doctor to actually LISTEN to me, about MY body, instead of just trying to pump me with appetite suppresants that only make the fact I have to force myself to eat, even worse. The doctor that has finally agreed with me that most of the problems im starting to encounter, would go away with surgery, is my AWESOME GYN! Go figure. After my in depth apt with him, he said that since my doctors arent listening to me, and seem NOT to have my best interest in mind, HE is going to get my refferal up and running!!! I'm thanking God, that I am finally making head way. I have to call the office tomorrow, and find out exactly when my apt with the surgeon is. I cannot explain how excited, nervous, and every other possible emotion I am right now!! Just ready to get this show on the road!!!:D:D:D

Hi Sundai, Welcome. Congratulations on you decision. Most of the time doctors have our best interest at heart but there are also those that would rather prescribe you a pill or shot for everything and before you know it your spending hundreds of dollars a month on medication and having to go in every 6 months for a liver check or somthing because the side affects can do more damage than what they are treating. Enough of my soap box. My doctor (Who is actually a FNP) has been watching my weight fluctuate for years but always with a steady increase after every loss so when I mentioned it to her over two years ago she wrote me a referal to a seminar and I knew right then it was for me. We don't make these decision lightly and put a lot of thought into because we realize it is life changing and we will have to alter our lifestyles forever. So welcome on this wonderfull journey to health, hold on though it can be a bumpy ride at times. Tom

My husband and I moved to Florida about a year and a half ago, so my PCP doesn't have a long medical history on me. I couldn't even talk him into prescribing Phentermine. He thought I should magically lose weight by dieting and exercising which has never worked due to some of the medicines I have to take. I have some really bad spine problems. After seeing a neurosurgeon and a new pain specialist, both doctors encouraged me to have the gastric bypass surgery to reduce the stress on my spine. With any luck, maybe I'll get to the point where I no longer have to wear a pain patch. I've wanted to have the surgery for years but never thought I'd be able to talk a doctor into it, and it was finally literally dropped into my lap. Now, I've seen the surgeon and things are progressing really quickly. I was even able to get my old PCP from WV to write a fabulous letter in my favor for having the surgery. I have Medicare. According to the insurance coordinator, I'll be approved really quickly, because I meet all of their guidelines. She termed me "an easy case". I feel like a child waiting for Christmas morning.

Sundai, I know where you are coming from. My primary was listening, but was giving me things to try first and wanted the surgery as a last resort. I had to see my GYN and he told me to have the surgery done, so he would be able to go in and repair my prolapsed bladder. Once I told my primary this, then the asked me what surgeon I wanted to go to, and he set up the referral to go. The rest is history. I had to wait about 6 months and then had my surgery. I had the Duodenal Switch done and have lost 41 lbs, but I could be losing more if I could get down some protein, which I am having trouble with. Good luck with everything and keep us posted

I'm a little confused, because I'm still new. I thought the Unjunny (spelled wrong) drinks (and their other products) were:confused: supposed to have all the protein a person needs per day. Am I wrong?

Barb...

I must have good insurance, because I didn't have to get a referral from my PCP. I guess I will eventually have to tell her, but the only reason I'm staying with her now is because she has my medical history for the last 12 years. She's fairly incompetent and was no help when my husband was dying from a brain tumor. She just kind of shrugged like "what do you want me to do?"

I recommend that you definitely change doctors. Your medical records can be forwarded to your new doctor. All you have to do is sign a release. Do you really want an incompetent doctor on your case if you become real sick?

I guess I haven't changed doctors because I find the whole process time consuming and difficult. When my gyn retired suddenly because of health problems, it took me several years to find someone I was comfortable with.
My PCP doesn't have hospital privileges (only a few doctors in her practice do), so if I get sick I go to my local teaching hospital ER where I get excellent care.

KARENINA-You deserve to have a PCP that you can trust and that has your best interest in mind. Ask your bariatric surgeon if he / she can recommend someone. Friends, family and co-workers might also be able to suggest one. You can also look on the Internet to find patient ratings for all type of doctors.

You don't have to say anything to your current doctor unless you want to vent. Just find another one and stop going, your new doctor's staff can have all of your records transferred.

Karenina, Please dump that doctor ASAP. You are about to have surgery that will be a life changing event and it is paramount that you have a compatent PCP as well as a bariatric doctor that can both work together to make sure you get the proper care and understands that your medical treatment will not always be the standard and that after surgery there are things that we cant take. Tom

Hi barb. The goal is to take in 65-75 grams of protein per day. Unjury has different types of protein powders you can use to attain that goal.

That's very good information to have. I thank you for it. Now, I can approach Unjury and see if their product "comes through".

Pat, That's a really good idea about asking my bariatric surgeon about a new PCP. He might know someone who is up and current with what is going on in the field. I think all of you have convinced me to act on getting a new doc. Thanks!
