    RNY or Sleeve

My doctor and I decided together. Luckily we were on the same page.

    Pain

Look at you under 200! You should be happy (it says so under your goal weight)

    Pain

I had 3 surgeries at the same time (sleeve, gall bladder removal, and hernia repair) so I needed pain meds. I took Percocet. If you need to take NSAIDS, you might consider the sleeve because you can resume them 1 month post-op.

    Eating out

It depends how far you are in your journey. Are you post-op? How many months/years?

Gastric Bypass 07/1999 kept off 144 pounds for 14 years

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your success! I am 8 months post vertical gastric sleeve. I didn't have any complications from surgery, and am on maintenance right now. I've been pretty afraid of the maintenance part but find I'm still not hungry and just eat because I'm supposed to...

    Hello

I learned recently that certain probiotics cause more gas than others, so I'm paying more attention to that. I too have a lot of gas and when I mention it to the bariatric staff, they seem surprised and ask me if I'm eating gassy foods. Well, duh. I expect to have gas with gassy foods, but this...

    First time here

Cheyenne, I got the prize for most ER/hospital admissions in 2013, but I think you are going to win it for 2014. Geez. Will it never end?

    First time here

Your exercise doesn't have to be very formal. A lot of people walk-- gets your heart rate up and burns some calories, no expensive gym membership needed. If your kids are involved in sports, you can run up and down the bleachers for 15 minutes-that counts! You are probably fairly active anyway...

    First time here

Mamafirny Welcome to the forum. Please know that you have the support of the bariatric community. Please post often and read blogs and other posts. Lots to learn! You could probably lose most of your excess weight without exercising, but maintaining the loss would be hard. Why do you ask?

Gallbladder ultrasound may have found trouble

If you have an opportunity to have your gall bladder removed at the same time as your WLS, TAKE IT. More than likely you'll be going back for a second operation if you don't.

And don't forget all that money on food that you were spending before. I wander around the store now every 2 weeks trying to find $40 worth of groceries. So different from when I was spending $200 a week.

    After Surgery day3

Try experimenting with different temperatures of fluid. Sometime hot or cold or room-temp goes down easier. I know they told you to drink water, but your body will recognize any fluid when you are trying to not get dehydrated, so count that 11oz shake as fluid intake. Good luck to you. I hope it...

    Changing

You stay strong, girl. Keep your sister's picture and that picture of your thinner self where you can remind yourself of why you are doing this.

All insurances are so different, but since I just calculated this figure, I'll pass it along to you. I paid slightly over $1800 out of pocket with Cigna Insurance.

    pre-surgical weight loss?

I think the insurance companies only look at your weight and BMI at the beginning. I had lost 60 of my 107 pounds before surgery and the surgery was still approved. So if I lost over half my excess weight why did I have the surgery, you ask? Because I knew I couldn't maintain it. It was kind of...

not quite 3 months since surgery

Over 10 pounds a month seems pretty good to me. Don't compare yourself with anyone else. You will reach goal, and you will maintain it. The weight loss that we achieve with this surgery is different than any other weight loss. I mean, the fat is gone. I've been at this weight before, but don't...

I am here, here I start.

Congratulations on your courage. This is not an easy thing, but then, after it's over, you wondered why it seemed so hard. The fact is, dieting doesn't work for the majority of morbidly obese people. Don't know why, but it doesn't. Maybe the mountain is too big. I personally think that not...

surgery a success! body signal changes?

If you are on liquids it is very hard to tell if you are full or hungry. That will change as you advance to solid foods.
