Looking for a mentor/support before surgery.

Colonoscopy did not go well. No credit for liquid diet before prep solution. I was only passing water in bowels. The 2.5 hour drive there was tense. Did stop once but stops are irregular and if not prepared…. You know. Dr threw hissy fit that I didn’t finish the prep. Totally ignored I recently had bariatric surgery. Said I would need to reschedule in 6-12 months. He did the procedure regardless. Several times I felt like he was bulldozing my colon. I am not a happy camper. I think he was more interested in finding debris than checking for any colon problems. I do not have a family history of colon cancer. The only reason I had first colonoscopy was bleeding rectally. Result thin skin membrane in anal area and hemorrhoids.

On Saturday I went shopping walking still painful. Used cane and store electric carts. But even better the guys arrived to install my solar panels. I have dreamed to add solar since I bought the house. Electric heat no a/c added tankless electric water heater. Life is good. Rested hip after shopping. Too much pain to climb ladder into pool.

On Sunday I was finally able to walk with small difficulty. I went out to back of house to clear weeds in anticipation for electrician to hook up solar panels to house and meter. After first battery for weed eater went to sleep, was using second battery when my yard worker stopped by. Primarily he is mowing when I can’t. And the back of the house was in great need. I was also getting tired. He finished and I have to say the timing could not have been better. Later on I did get in the pool. Even the water therapy exercises went well.

Today I met with orthopedic for results on ct scan. I guess the dr and PA are in wonder that I have only now started to complain about my hip. The arthritis is bad and is not going to get better without surgery, I wanted to wait until bariatric anniversary before replacing. I did get shot in June and have follow up in sept. I will meet with bariatric team in aug I think didn’t check calendar for exact date before starting this update. Oh well. I have issues taking pain meds I don’t like the idea, but right now I may not have much of a choice.

I rested after I got home took pain med and went to do weed eating in pool yard then mowing, batteries last about 45 min each so two for the weed eater and 2 pair of two for the mower before they ran out of power. That was time well spent. I got stung in my left ankle. Had husband look at it after I got out of pool. Yep swollen May still have stinger in it. Walk in clinic in the morning oh goody. Some days are up and down. The pool tonight was just for relaxation no therapy tonight. It was great water temp avg is 88 degrees.

Oh yeah my phone went in the pool with me. I can say the cover system I bought for it saved my phone. It got damp in the 1.5 hour I was in the water, but it still works. Took cover off dried inside of case working like a champ.

I know I write too much. But it is good to just be able to share. Thanks everyone

Oh Roni! So sorry about the colonoscopy and your hip. Are they talking about a hip replacement?
Yes they are talking replacement. I was wanting to wait till bariatric anniversary in feb. But with the way the pain is I may have to reconsider as early as sept. That is from the steroid shot for review. I will be talking to the bariatric team before I decide. Orthopedic Dr is surprised I want to wait. I am learey of local doctors after having 9 laparoscopic staples in my ureter from a hysterectomy in 95. Took three years to get right kidney working right but low functioning. If I dehydrate I pass kidney stones. Yes I am drinking a min of 40 oz per day. I have survived worse but that is story for another day.

I think it is wise to check with your bariatric team to see if there is any benefit of holding off surgery. I know what it is like to have to put off joint replacements. When I was 40 I was told I needed knee replacements but was too young. I waited 10 years, yes 10 years of pain. So, if the pain is so intense for you and your bariatric team gives you the go ahead, by all means go for it! You are so active that I hate to see this slow you down. Keep us posted and good luck Roni!

Roni, I have to say from all I've read you are one heck of a trooper! You Go Girl! You seem to overcome obstacle after obstacle knowing there are more to come, but you keep going. I know it isn't easy, and likely at at times that will be harder, but you are strong and will get through them. You should be very proud of yourself. I hope I can handle life's difficulties as well as you are doing. I hope you continue to vent here. You are a hero I like to read about.

Welcome! You’ll find a lot of support here!! It sounds like you’ve come a long ways from when you started, and you’re ready to make the commitment to your health. I am glad you found the group. I have a lot of family in Iowa, but mostly around Marshalltown.
I really wish I could believe you. I just read that you don't give medical advice here but was then told if my doctor didn't give me supplements, which I can't take, to find another doctor. The poster said supplements were like chicken soup, they can't hurt you. But, she was wrong. She gives out medical advice with absolutely no medical training. I wish you all the best of luck but I think I will just take my leave since people here don't practice what they preach.

I don’t get this post. And I I wish you well in your journey

Night before last I was out at the pool. Walking around it, well my foot caught on what they call a paver, it helps to stop grass growing under patio tiles. I have it under the wagon with my filter on it. Helps with weed eating. I ended up doing a belly flop on the ground. I went to hospital walk-in clinic. Nothing is broke. Told dr about the hip X-ray and ct scan, he looked them up and then he explained that there is some necrosis in the femoral artery causing the hip joint to keep creating layers of bone and my hip doesn’t fit in the socket anymore. That is the clearest explanation of what is wrong with my hip. Even though the bariatric team says wait for surgeversarie that may not be option if I can’t walk. I meet with primary care giver on Tuesday re pain meds and management. I did go to chiropractor yesterday who put me back in place. I played in the pool yesterday playing dodge the robot cleaner. Then I emptied it to start again. Lower back is tender but livable. Today is hot and I may do a little yard work and then jump in the pool again. Maybe get water therapy done today. Be safe be fun.

This is referencing another post from a different thread. I understand your hesitation Andi, I left the group for a while too, but I hope you come back. If I’ve ever said anything that was taken for medical advice rather than personal advice and support, I apologize.
I felt so lost when I read that. It came out of the blue. 3momchaos I love reading your posts and have never felt like you gave medical advice. You have a happy day.

I hope you can have the surgery. I’ve heard hip replacement is a lot easier than knee replacement, but I’ve never experienced either. I’ve had other knee surgery, and still have a lot of pain, so I’m hoping your hip gets some relief very soon!

It has been a week. Monday I spent the afternoon in the pool, with my chosen granddaughter Genna. We started at 1 and stayed, played and laughed our way til 4:45 pm she turned a wee bit pink and so did I but mine was on the tan. Tuesday was talk to the primary at the Local VA, the orthopedic group was supposed to send the x-ray and ct results to her but instead they sent them to Iowa City VA and nobody knows where those are. My primary said to get this expedited I would need a road trip to Iowa City VA to get X-ray to start the process. I went home and decided to put together my pool shed. Over the weekend I did the pre assembly of the skylight pieces in the roof sections and the windows on the doors and the screens in the headers(the pieces the roof attaches to). So now it was time to put the walls up. Son has a friend who could help, so I said let’s start. The front left corner and side panel went up stopped to take a drink was very hot. The wind blew those off. So it was time to do again. We did get all up and in place. Put the middle roof truss in( the piece the roof panels attach to). Left side is good but right side back is having issues. Had to call it quits. Wednesday neighbor lady and I did the road trip to Iowa city. She was such a trooper. I put gas in her vehicle and bought her lunch. The er dr after the X-ray said my hip is bad and does really need to be replaced we talked options. She said the university of is orthopedics would be available to do the surgery at the va hospital. She sent the referral to scheduling and they would call me. Thursday morning I got the call to be seen at va orthopedics I added it to my appts on aug 19. 4 appts in one day. It stinks they only had 8:30 am and all my other appts are afternoon.. gonna be a very long day. Yesterday was my birthday I turned 62. It was also shopping day. I take my friend so instead of an hour maybe two it takes 3-6 hours instead. When I got home I was wore out and hip was hurting too much to sit in the living room. Plus it was hotter than hades in there. I have my little artic ice fan in bedroom and window fan and I get by. Today husband wanted to get his CPU checked out, I went with. I was doing good, until I had to go to the bathroom. By the time I got back to the front of the store I was in pain. When we got home I took some pain meds rested some. Friend called needing a ride so I am off again. Laters
