Looking for a mentor/support before surgery.

Today I worked on the pool, and pool yard. I also gathered all the mending so far and put in one place, for after the outside work like a rainy day or something like that. Tomorrow is start mowing at back of house, after I finish the last of the tree area in the pool yard. Having way too much fun around the apple tree. Especially the apples on the ground the squirrels threw down. Then to north side and then back to front if batteries hold out. Grocery day has been delayed to sat. I can live with that. Still rescuing clothes from basement and still looking for green tomato relish recipe.

On Sunday sept 19 I took husband to walk in clinic, he was having trouble breathing. His oxygen level was down and the clinic took us to the ER, same building. He was admitted at 9 pm and was put on a bipap machine, sorta like a cpap. His covid test was negative. He had fluid in his lungs the prior week and was on lasix. They gave him more lasix. On Tuesday they put temp port in for dialysis. He is a renal patient. In the meantime I am still working on getting pool closed keeping chemicals stable and leaves and debris low. On Wednesday they were gonna put a scope to his heart to determine the specific issue with his heart vavlve. They started by trying artery in wrist but had to stop and use leg artery due to blockage. The ras and lcd are back pedaling blood in his heart. And they have determined he will need bypass surgery also. They transferred him to Barnes hospital in St. Louis on sat. I made it down today. I am staying with my best friend. The goal is for the hospital to be ready to do open heart surgery on Tuesday. It has been a week for sure. The pool is closed, debris minimal. No leaves. Pool water level balanced and lowered. Winter chemicals added. Pool pillows tied down cover on top. 450 feet of twine to hold cover on. Which blew off two days later. Neighbor and I moved cover back under twine. Added bricks with string to connect cover and brink. Yard guy came and used pallet wrap on cover and all back to done playing with pool.yesterday I was working on removing size 24, 22 pants and 3xxx and 2xx skirts. Rearranged drawers. I was exhausted. Today was drive to check in on husband. Stay at best friends house it is good to be with loved ones. Thank you for listening

Roni I am so sorry this is happening. Big Barnes (what us St. Louisans call it since there are a couple smaller Barnes hospitals in the area) is an amazing hospital. I was actually supposed to be there this week with my son for a clinical trial, but that’s on hold until we figure out what’s going on with his seizure. I’ll be thinking of you and hoping all goes well with your husband.

Roni my heart breaks for you. My husband nearly died 7-1/2 years ago after a small bowel obstruction. He spent 30 days in the hospital. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to go through.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband. It is a blessing you have a good friend to stay with. Get as much rest as you can, whenever you can. Men in hospitals can be needy (at least mine was).

I want to thank everyone for the well wishes, it means a lot to me. My best friend is awesome. It is good to spend some time with her. Actually it is nice just to be away from home. I brought some mending with me to work on. Plus my daily life support my iPad. It looks like surgery is not happening until Wednesday. He is in dialysis this afternoon. I am doing good. Oh yeah, my friend and I are going through the size 22 skirts to determine which ones we each keep some for her or or some for me or some to get rid of.

I forgot to mention size 20’s are big. But 18’s are snug in waist but fit everywhere else.

I came home last night since surgery has not been planned yet. Update on husband Barnes hospital is feeding him after local hospital had him on NPO for four of the six days he was there. According to his blood work the nephrologist at Barnes says husband is NOT Diabetic, he wants to know what dr said his kidneys are failing and what stage of kidney failure he was diagnosed, because he doesn’t see any disease or failure. The Barnes dr is really NOT happy with the current nurse practitioner who is treating him. They are repeating all the tests he was given locally and feel those local tests are questionable. They have stopped dialysis at this time. They have added a couple of extra tests. The heart surgeon told husband this morning he was going to send him home for 10-15 days because there were no operating rooms available. This afternoon the nurse practitioner said there were cancellations so he will be operated on next week he will check in the night before surgery.

I have been rearranging my room all day. Even made trip to store and bought 8 storage containers after having brilliant idea how and where to store cpap supplies, bariatric aids, lotions and other meds inhalers anti itch, hemmaroid digital stuff(headphones, earbuds, Bluetooth, extra cords) and normal hair bands brushes etc. I am filling the dead space between bed and wall with the containers and I am feeling empowered but tired. I even eliminated a lot of stuff on my night stand. Bad news I can’t find the other two dust filters for the 2.5 gal shop vac that I have been using, thinks I will have to get another set of three. Today was put out garbage and recycle. Done, I am tired. I am watching and recording my food log I am doing good there. I just want my room more accessible for me after surgery which is why I am rearranging stuff.

Oh yeah my after surgery aids came today, an extra cane, grabber(husband keeps stealing mine) sock aid to put socks on, shower sponge, shoe horn with sock aid to take off socks and the stool riser.

Tomorrow going back to hospital to see husband and bring him home Friday until surgery. The dogs have missed him so much. Be fun everyone. Stay safe.

Roni, you are non stop over there huh? I hope they can figure out what is going on with your husband. That sounds so scary .. the idea that he's been getting dialysis without actually needing it and that he may not even be diabetic?!? Crazy. Don't forget to just take a little time for you to relax, if you can. Although, sometimes staying busy is the best way to power through, right? Good luck to you and your husband. You'll be in my thoughts.

Thursday the 7 th husband checks back into hospital by 9 am surgery is scheduled for 730 am Friday. Neighbor is taking care of the puppies and best friend and I get some more time together. Our 10 x 20 ft shed arrived Tuesday. Today went shopping since I will be traveling on Thursday shopping day.

Hospital gave husband a new scale. They want him to weigh everyday to look for fluid retention. I have gotten on twice maybe three times so far. I really prefer the NSV stuff better. I found the first belt husband made for me. It fits again. But needs a buckle. That is easy to fix.

Will let you know how things go, when I know how long they are keeping him that will determine how long I stay with best friend. I have a shed to fill. And need to continue getting ready for my surgery. Be fun stay safe.
