November 30-Day Challenge

Thank you for giving me that boost of confidence, Diane. You always find the right words in a way that tells me exactly what I need to hear.

You are right; I don't need to fear the numbers on the scale, especially because physically I'm feeling terrific. I will continue to lose, even if they creep up for a week or two. I am a loser, and doggone proud of it!!! :):)
You have a GREAT attitude Karen! And if it just so happens that the numbers keep going down in big jumps like that, remember Kathi's scale? She was just magically melting away until the scale said "No more, I can't take anymore of this!" :D:p Then Kathi bought a new scale. Hopefully yours will be fine. ;)

OMG I completely forgot about Kathi's magic scale that had her losing dozens of pounds. I guess if I lose another 10 lbs next week, that means my scale is my new BFF (until I weigh below, maybe, 0 lbs; then I put my foot down & get a new scale???):(

Thanks, Judy, for your encouragement. I don't know why this huge weight drop freaked me out so much. In my pre-surgery days, I would have been dancing for joy to see those kind of numbers. Then I would have signed a book deal! I think I'm starting to wrap my mind around it.

And I know that your 5 lb weight loss is all you and not one of those "magic" scales! Lol

Day 9

Water:
64 oz
Protein: 45g
Movement: 25 min walk to the Riverfront Park & back. Beautiful weather - short sleeve shirts

Gratitude: American Bariatrics of course. Y'all have helped me in so many ways as I've tried to navigate my way through this weight loss journey.

I also lost 7 the week before. I can feel the difference as I was really starting to feel that regain slow me down, otherwise I would have questioned my scale too! :D;)
Thank you for sharing your weight loss of 12 lbs over the past 2 weeks. That makes me feel a whole lot better about losing 10 lbs in a week. That's not much different than your prior 7 lb loss. Yay, we're a couple of losers. Woohoo!!!

Day 10
Protein
: Honestly not sure, probably around 60.
Water: 64
Intentional movement: no
Gratitude time of day: I don’t think I have a favorite time of day because I can find something I enjoy about all different times of day.

You're welcome Karen and I'm delighted to be your fellow loser!!

The regain came on pretty fast so I am thinking that is why it is coming off fast. I can honestly say I have been doing better now. I no longer count calories but stick to my preplanned meals and several choices of allowed healthy snacks.

I think with food addiction, giving myself a set amount of calories tend to make me want to fulfill it to the max. So I might see how many calories I have left and give myself the okay to eat it. Now I seem to be telling myself more and more that I really don't want anything. And I've been listening better to stomach hunger rather than head hunger.

Gratitude - Time of Day
I am most grateful for my peaceful mornings. The first hour or two when I am alone with my thoughts drinking my coffee, planning my day out, reflecting on prayer, gratitude and thinking positive thoughts. I find if I use this time to its fullest it gets me off to a good start.

Day 10

Water:
80 oz
Protein: 60g (finally)
Movement: grocery shopping - lots of walking, pushing the buggy around the store, lifting, loading & unloading, etc.

Gratitude: Time of day. I've learned to appreciate the morning now that I don't have to rush around getting the day ggoing.

I do really love late at night though. I've always been a night owl, late to rise and late to go to sleep. That's still my favorite time, when the world slows down and becomes still & quiet.

I no longer count calories but stick to my preplanned meals and several choices of allowed healthy snacks.
Judy, something that worked for me was switching calories drastically. Eating healthy portions of yogurt, cottage cheese, broiled chicken, etc. every day put my metabolism to sleep. One day I ate a greasy cheeseburger with mayo. The next day I went back to healthy eating but at my next weigh-in, I'd dropped pounds. Every time I plateaued, I broke the plateau by eating high-fat, low-carb food for one day.

It works every time.

The opposite might work, breaking a plateau with a day of fasting, then back to normal.

But I want to encourage you--and everyone--to study metabolic science. It's fascinating and helpful.

Even doubling your water intake can help break a fast. I can't remember the scientific term for starvation protection, but its something your body does when it is suddenly deprived of calories. You can bet your body notices any big eating shift. Static eating can pretty much cause a stall.

Best of luck to you.

Day 11
Water
: 64
Intentional movement: no-twins stayed home extremely fatigued from the vaccine, but they were all better by 2 chasing each other around the house LOL
Gratitude tradition: I love this one. I have a couple favorites. We put up Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving, our tree is filled with sentimental ornaments that bring back such wonderful memories. Thanksgiving eve we always go to a drive through Christmas lights display, same one my husband proposed at on Thanksgiving eve 2006. I always read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas every year just like my dad did no matter how old we got. One of my most valued possessions is an audio recording of him reading it-bittersweet and beautiful memories.

Catching up with Gratitude!

I figured that even though I'm down, I still have a lot of reasons to be grateful! So I will start by catching up with my gratitude challenge.

Place: Our home. While our home needs a lot of work, it is "our home". It is the first home I've ever owned, and for the peace of mind that brings, I am extremely grateful.

Shoes: I am grateful for my for my favorite Skechers colorful sneakers that remind me of tie dye. I love them so much I bought two pairs.
But because they are not in season I am also very grateful for my ankle boots!

Scent: I am grateful for seasonal scents of cinnamon, pine, clove, gingerbread, and pumpkin. They all bring that warm feeling of joy associated with the holidays.

Restaurant: We rarely eat out, so I don't have any favorite restaurant. If I had my choice of where to go, I would chose either Mexican or Italian cuisine, because those are the two I like the most. I am grateful for all restaurants.

Website: This one is obvious. I am very grateful for this website.

Time of day: I am grateful for evenings after 7 pm. This is the time when our home store is closed, so I can stop worrying about people dropping by. My husband and I can relax in front of the TV, Okie can jump up onto my lap, and I can just breathe.

Tradition: I am grateful for our Thanksgiving Day tradition of taking each family member stating one thing they are grateful for that year. Usually there are several teary-eyed family members by the time we are done. I am grateful to have the family members to have this tradition to share with.

Gratitude: Tradition
My mother:
Baking Christmas Cookies and handing the love of doing that to me. (My sister was the better cook but I was the better baker!) To be able to give a platter of your homemade cookies out as gifts and see their smile is priceless. One year I couldn't make my cookies and did I ever hear about it! LOL, I don't mind because I know how much they look forward to it.

I have kept certain favorite cookie recipes that my mom made and call them traditional recipes. In other words, must make! I feel my mon's presence when I do. She passed away over 30 years ago and is missed dearly. Then I have a few of my own favorites that I've discovered on my own and I try to add one new recipe each year to try and see if it bumps one of the others out. (But none ever bump out the recipes from my mom!) That makes for a lot of cookies and a lot of gifts. The challenge these days is to not be tempted to eat them, that is so hard and I admit that I had more than a few last year. But it is a season that only comes once a year!

And in passing down the tradition, here I am teaching my granddaughter (when she was 5) to bake as well...
